Riverhounds Enter Three Game Home StandJuly 26, 2012 - USL PRO (USL PRO) Pittsburgh Riverhounds
The Riverhounds opened the season on the beautiful island of Antigua for a two-game road trip in Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. In the first game, the Riverhounds defeated the Barracudas 1-0 when Mike Seth headed home a cross from Rich Costanzo late in the second half. The Barracudas bounced back in the second game to earn a 3-1 victory over the Riverhounds. The Barracudas converted two goals in the first half and added the insurance goal just before the final whistle blew.
Both Clubs have endured some disappointing results during the 2012 USL PRO season and have been eliminated from the post-season. With only pride and satisfaction to play for during the final three weeks of the season, both Clubs will need to bring professionalism and desire to each game.
Tomorrow night's match takes on even more significance as the Riverhounds will participate in the "Wear a Hat Day" promotion, in a fundraising effort for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. The event, which raises money and awareness for the families of young cancer patients, will ask all local students in Pittsburgh to wear hats to school on September 21st, showing support for children who lose their hair from radiation treatments. The Riverhounds encourage all fans to wear hats to the match, and help fight against the effects of cancer
The Riverhounds last played the L.A. Blues in early May in Pittsburgh, with the Blues earning a 3-0 victory. The Blues recorded all three of their goals in the second half from three different players, Ricky Waddell, Bright Dike and Matt Fondy.
The Blues traveled to the east coast for a three-game road stand over the next five days and are still in the hunt for post-season competition. With only 3 points separating the Blues from the Richmond Kickers for the sixth and final playoff berth, this road trip is critical for the Blues to earn points and maintain striking distance.
