
Tigers Complete Sweep in Lowell

LOWELL, MA-Connecticut Tigers SS Jared Reaves (2-4) hit an RBI double to left field to break a 4-4 tie and 1B Juaner Aguasvivas (3-4) added four RBIs to power the Connecticut Tigers (14-18) to a 7-4 win and a two-game series sweep over the Lowell Spinners (9-22) at LeLacheur Park on Friday night.
Connecticut has won nine of its last 11 games dating back to July 9 in Mahoning Valley where the Tigers snapped a six-game losing streak. Friday's victory also marks the first series sweep of 2012 for the Tigers.
The Spinners scored two runs in the second inning on a two-run home run by RF Matt Marquis (2-4). 1B Jake Davies (1-4) led off the inning with a single. Marquis pulled a hanging slider over the left field wall for his first home run of the season and a 2-0 Lowell lead.
The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning to tie the game. Reaves walked and went to second base on a single to right field by LF Danry Vasquez (3-3). Aguasvivas lined a double to left field to score both runners.
Lowell broke the tie the two runs in the third inning. SS Deven Marero (1-3) walked and moved to second base when 3B Kolbrin Vitek (1-4) reached on a fielder's choice. DH Matt Gedman (1-4) hit a bloop single to center field and Marero scored with Vitek reaching third base. Davies hit a ground ball to Connecticut 2B Devon Travis, who flipped the ball to SS Jared Reaves in an attempt to turn a double play. Reaves took his foot off of second base and threw to first for a single out. Vitek scored from third base for a 4-2 lead.
The Tigers tied the game scoring two runs on just one hit in the fifth inning. CF Jake Stewart (1-3) walked and moved to third base when Reaves doubled. Vazquez and Aguasvivas followed with back-to-back sacrifice flies to score both runners for a 4-4 tied score.
The Tigers and Spinners start a two-game series at Dodd Stadium on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. There will fireworks after the game and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Connecticut Tigers Coffee Mug. The pre-game features a special first pitch delivery by the LIFE STAR helicopter. The LIFE STAR crew will be on hand to greet fans from 6:00 p.m.
until 6:30 p.m. as they enter the stadium. There will be a premium wine tasting event at "The Yard Bar and Grill" during the game sponsored by Connecticut Distributors. A special ticket is required for this event. The evening ends with a Boy Scout Sleepover underneath the stars at Dodd Stadium. RHP Raynel Velette (2-1, 3.72) will get the start for the Spinners against LHP Hua-Wei Lo (1-1, 3.27) for the Tigers. The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
