Kelowna Falcons Win a ThrillerJuly 20, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL) Kelowna Falcons
The Bells would score first in the top of the first inning, on an RBI single by Derek Atkinson off Falcons starter Cord Cockrill.
The home side would storm back in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice on a two run single by Andrew Firth, his 15th RBI of the season.
The seesaw start to the game would continue in the third as the Bells regained the lead scoring twice on Cockrill. That's the only runs the WCL All Star would allow.
In the bottom of the third the Falcons would score three times as Troy Conyers recorded this fourth RBI of the season, just before Kyle Moses hit a two-out, two run double to put the Falcons in front 5-3.
After the third inning both starters settled in, not allowing another run. Cockrill finished after the sixth after allowing three runs and eight hits while striking out four. Bells starter Andrew Olson, an All-Star, would throw seven innings, allowing all five runs and 12 hits.
The Falcons would tack on another run in the eighth as Jace Conrad would bring home Bryan Elias. It was a run that would prove extremely important with the Falcons up 6-3.
In the top of the ninth the Bells would score two runs off Juan Padilla and would load the bases with one out. Conrad would come into the game and get the next two batters, stranding the tying run at third base.
Cockrill (6-2) picks up the win, while Conrad records his third save of the summer.
The Falcons (22-16) will travel 12 hours on the bus starting Friday morning at 5:00am and make the trip south for a three game series with the Corvallis Knights (22-17). The Falcons swept the Knights for the first time in franchise history at the beginning of the month at Elks Stadium. Following the series with Corvallis, the Falcons will return home to face the Kelowna Jays in an exhibition game on Monday night at 6:35pm.
