Sox Bats Quiet in Late InningsJuly 16, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL) Bristol White Sox
The Sox struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Kale Kiser drew a leadoff walk and stole second base. Alex Williams drove in Kiser with a two-out double and later scored on a Nick Basto single. The Sox led 2-0 until the top of the fourth inning.
The Astros tied the game at two apiece when Jean Batista hit a two-run home run. Leopoldo Sanchez pitched six innings of two-run ball with five strikeouts. The game started to fall apart for the Sox after Sanchez left the ballgame.
The Astros scored four runs in the final three innings to jump out to a 6-2 lead over the Sox. The three big innings by the Astros were highlighted by a long solo homerun by Ricky Gingras.
Despite a four-hit night by Angel Rosario, the Sox couldn't push across any more runs. The Sox bullpen gave up four runs on four hits and only struck out one.
Zachary Dando collected his third win on the season for the Astros and Jose Brito took the loss for the Sox. Kiser went 2 for 3 with a double on the night for the Sox, while Batista scored two runs for the Astros while knocking in two runs himself.
The 6-19 Sox will travel to the 5-17 Kingsport Mets for a 7 p.m. first pitch. The Sox will travel back home on July 20 for Merchants' Night at the ballpark, with plenty of great giveaways for fans from area merchants. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and purchase plenty of programs for the best chance to win a variety of items, including a multitude of gift certificates, Rhythm & Roots tickets, and tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game.
