Greeneville Astros News Release
Bristol, TN - The Greeneville Astros visited Boyce Cox Field and completed a series sweep of the Bristol Sox on Monday night with a 6-2 win. The Astros are now 5-1 against the Sox this season. With three games left against each other at Greeneville in mid-August, the Astros have already clinched the season series.
Greeneville (17-9) is now a 0.5 game behind the Elizabethton Twins for the Appalachian League West division lead. Meanwhile, Bristol (6-19) is currently holding onto fourth place in the division.
On Monday, the Sox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Alex Williams doubled to knock in the first run, and Nicholas Basto brought Williams in shortly thereafter on a ground ball single to center field.
It took a few innings, but the Astros got back into the game in the fourth. Immediately following an Angel Ibanez base hit, Jean Batista connected on his third home run of the season to even the score at 2-2.
Greeneville would eventually take the lead for good in the seventh inning with a Jimmy Howick RBI single on a line drive to left field. In the eighth, the Astros picked up two more scores when Marc Wik scored on a wild pitch and Angel Ibanez knocked in Brian Blasik on a ground out. Then, Ricky Gingras padded the lead in the ninth inning with a solo homer, his first as a professional after being selected in the 18th round of the 2012 draft.
Greeneville's Adrian Houser pitched five innings, striking out six and giving up two runs on five hits. Then, Zach Dando (3-0) entered the game and gave up no runs on two hits over the next two innings and picked up the win.
The Astros will face the Pulaski Mariners (11-15) for the first time this season on Tuesday as they begin a three-game series at Pioneer Park. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
