HARRISON, New Jersey - Alvaro Fernandez and Fredy Montero scored as Seattle Sounders FC (8-5-7, 31 points) earned a 2-2 road draw against the New York Red Bulls (9-5-5, 32 points) on Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena. Adam Johansson recorded his first two MLS assists as Seattle extended its unbeaten streak to four games (1-0-3).

Seattle struck early with a goal from Fernandez in the 16th minute. Johansson sent a long cross from the right flank to the far post where Fernandez volleyed a low shot past Red Bulls keeper Bill Gaudette.

It was the second consecutive game with a goal for Fernandez, who had nine goals in 2011.

New York then scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. Sebastien Le Toux picked up his first goal for the Red Bulls when he converted a Kenny Cooper rebound in the 24th minute. Bryan Meredith had made a diving save on Cooper's initial shot before Le Toux tapped in the equalizer.

Joel Lindpere put New York up 2-1 in the 61st minute when he got behind the defense on the right side on a ball from Brandon Barklage. Lindpere cut across his defender and slotted a low shot inside the near post.

Montero entered as a 62nd minute substitute and pulled Seattle level just five minutes later. Johansson fed Brad Evans up the right side, who sent a low cross to Montero in the box. Montero struck the ball first time with his right foot, putting it past Gaudette to the far post.

Montero now has four goals and two assists in eight career appearances as a substitute.

The two assists marked Johansson's first points for Seattle in league play. He also cleared a dangerous Dax McCarty header off the line in the 75th minute.

Eddie Johnson was dangerous in the first half. In the 11th minute, he fed Evans with a through-ball into the box for a one-on-one with the keeper, but Gaudette charged out to make the save. In the 32nd minute, Johnson got the ball in the box on a run and put a strong shot on frame from the left side, but Gaudette dove to make the stop.

Seattle is now unbeaten in the past six games (3-0-3) across all competitions and holds a 3-2-2 advantage all-time against New York.

Sounders FC hosts UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea FC in a friendly on Wednesday on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. PT. Seattle will return to league play on July 28 at Colorado Rapids.
