Minnesota United FC News Release
BLAINE, Minn. (July 11, 2012) --- Minnesota Stars FC announced Wednesday that it had signed Brazilian midfielder Geison Moura for the remainder of the 2012 North American Soccer League season.
Moura will be a familiar face to Stars fans. He previously suited up for the Stars on 16 occasions in 2010 and 2011, scoring two goals and recording an assist. He was a part of two memorable moments at NSC Stadium during those two seasons, scoring a last-minute equalizer against AC St. Louis in 2010 and assisting Amani Walker's last-minute winning goal against the Carolina RailHawks in 2011.
In addition to his experience with the Stars, the 5-foot-9 midfielder from outside Sao Paulo brings five years of indoor soccer experience to the Stars, most recently with the Major Indoor Soccer League's Missouri Comets, for whom he has made 45 appearances in the past two seasons, recording 49 goals and 25 assists. For scoring 37 goals and 13 assists for the Comets last season, Moura was named the MISL Most Valuable Player.
"Geison is coming off an outstanding year of indoor and has been training with us throughout the season," Stars head coach Manny Lagos said. "He's been performing well in training and has shown a lot of dedication to getting better, and I think he's a great midseason addition to the team who will fit in quickly with the guys."
Pending league and USSF approval, Moura will be eligible for the Stars beginning tomorrow night against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Tickets for that match are available by calling (763) 792-7355 or visiting mnstarsfc.com.
