Anaheim Ducks Sign Forward Corey Elkins to One-Year Deal

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks, National Hockey League (NHL) parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, announced today that the NHL club has signed forward Corey Elkins to a one-year contract through the 2012-13 season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Elkins, 27 (2/23/85), made his NHL debut with the Los Angeles Kings in 2009-10, scoring one goal (1-01) in three games. Elkins appeared in his first career NHL game on Dec. 15, 2009 at Edmonton and scored his first NHL goal (Miikka Kiprusoff) on Dec. 17, 2009 at Calgary. The 6-2, 214-pound center played last season in the Czech Republic with Pardubice HC, scoring 6-713 points with a +8 rating and 24 penalty minutes (PIM) in 26 games.
Signed by Los Angeles as a free agent on Mar. 31, 2009, Elkins appeared in 76 games for the American Hockey League's (AHL) Manchester Monarchs in 2010-11, collecting 18-2644 points with a +2 rating. Among team leaders, Elkins ranked seventh in scoring, fifth in power play goals (5), tied for fifth in goals and sixth in assists. Setting career highs in assists, points and appearances during the regular season, Elkins also added 2-35 points with two PIM in seven 2011 Calder Cup Playoff games.
In 149 career AHL games - all with Manchester - Elkins has recorded 39-4887 points. He has also posted 5-813 points in 21 career Calder Cup Playoff games with the Monarchs. During his rookie professional campaign in 2009-10, Elkins led the Monarchs in goals (21) and was second in points (43) while skating in 73 games. He ranked tenth in points and was tied for fifth in goals among all AHL rookies that season.
A native of West Bloomfield, MI, Elkins played four collegiate seasons with Ohio State University (CCHA) from 2005-09, earning 27-3360 points with 40 PIM in 102 career games. In his senior year in 2008-09, Elkins led Ohio State in scoring (18-2341) and was voted the team's Most Valuable Player after becoming the first Buckeye to score 40 points in a single season since 2004-05.
