Weis and Gicewicz to Represent U.S. at Ivan Hlinka Tournament

July 9, 2012 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Green Bay Gamblers

(Green Bay, WI) - USA Hockey announced the roster for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team that will compete at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament this summer which takes place August 13-17 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.Green Bay Gamblers forward Matthew Weis and prospect R.J. Gicewicz are among the 22-man roster.

Weisplayed the 2009-10 season with the Jersey Hitmen of the Empire Junior Hockey League. In 31 games, Weis tallied 17 goals 22 assists. The Madison, New Jersey native played 25 games for the Ice Rays this past season scoring 4 goals and 14 assists before joining the Gamblers in a trade. Weis tallied 6 goals 9 assists in 33 regular season games for the Gamblers. Weis is committed to Ohio State.

Gicewicz was drafted by the Gamblers in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft and is touted as one of the best 95 birthdates in the state of New York. The defenseman played the 2011-12 season for Nichols school and was a member of the U.S. U17 team that captured the gold medal at the 2011 Five Nations Tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament features under-18 teams representing eight different countries - Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. Since the tournament began in 1991, the United States has finished in the top three on 10 occasions, including the tournament title in 2003. Last year, the U.S. Select Team finished fifth in the event.
