Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - A six-run seventh inning powered the AquaSox to a 10-1 victory over the Eugene Emeralds. The win improved Everett's record to 14-4.
Six hits and three walks in the seventh inning contributed to six Frogs touching home plate. Taylor Ard worked a walk with the bases loaded to earn an RBI and Patrick Kivlehan laced a ball over the center fielder's head for a base-clearing double to plate three more Frogs. The big inning gave the Sox a 9-1 lead going into the eighth.
Lefty Steve Ewing (1-0, 2.92 ERA) pitched well in his second start of the season, giving up one run (no earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out two to earn the win. The University of Miami alumnus has yet to allow an earned run in 10.0 innings pitched so far as a starter for the Sox.
The Emeralds used seven pitchers in the game, compared to just two used by Everett. Right-hander Joe Church (1-1, 10.13 ERA) earned the loss for the Em's.
Ard capped the 10-run night with a home run to right-center field. The seventh-round draft pick out of Washington State University now has three home runs on the season, tying Marcus Littlewood for most on the team.
The AquaSox broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting three runs on the board. Chris Taylor led off the inning with a double that went in and out of the center fielder's glove on a difficult play, and four singles followed to push the Frogs in front, 3-0.
Eugene's lone run came in the top of the sixth inning off a sacrifice fly by Chris Burke.
The Frogs look to win the series in the third game against the Emeralds Tuesday at Everett Memorial Stadium. There will be a fireworks show after the game to celebrate the holiday, since the Sox travel on July 4.
