Lake Elsinore - On a night of nothing for the fans, no admission, no parking, no music, just pure baseball, well they got more than that, they saw a show. The Storm began a three-game series against the High Desert Mavericks whom both are vying for that coveted first half title. The lead switched back and forth but the was the Mavs who captured the 7-4 win.

Starting pitchers James Gillheeney and Jerry Sullivan got the game started with a scoreless first two innings but the bats started to connect in the third.

In the top of the third, the Mavs jumped on the board when Brad Miller singled in front of Rymer Liriano with two outs. Stefen Romero would score Miller off his 11th home run of the season that traveled 398 feet to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

But the Storm ended that lead quickly. The Miller for the Storm, Justin Miller put the Storm on the board with a lead off home run. Miller is batting .408 in 21 games for the Storm.

After a pair of singles by Tommy Medica and Eddy Rodriguez, Connor Powers walked and Chris Bisson hit his first triple of the season scoring all three to give the Storm a 4-2 lead.

In the fourth the Mavs tacked on a run after Steve Proscia doubled he came around to score cutting the lead to a one run game.

High Desert continued scoring in fifth after Kevin Rivers led off with a triple to center field. After Brad Miller and Romero hit back-to-back singles Julio Morban hit a 391-foot home run over the 37-foot high wall in right field to regain the lead 7-4.

Relievers Mark Pope, Chris Wilkes, and Jeremy Gigliotti held off the Mavs combined to allow only two hits, no runs and no errors in four innings.

With last licks for the Storm in the bottom of the ninth down three, The Storm loaded the bases but were unable to capitalize as the Mavericks advanced their record to tie the Storm.

With the Lancaster JetHawks falling to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 5-4, the Quakes claim the top spot from the Storm in South Division in the California League for now.

The Storm will face the Mavs in game two on a Fat Tuesday where fans can enjoy all-you-can-eat concessions for an advanced ticket price.
