Knighthawks to Throw out First Pitch

June 4, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) Rochester Knighthawks

Rochester Knighthawks Team Captain Pat McCready will kick off the team's Championship Celebration the same way he ushered in the 2012 National Lacrosse League Playoffs - by throwing out the first pitch at a Red Wings' baseball game.

McCready and fellow defenseman Joel White will throw out the first pitches prior to tonight's second game between the Rochester Red Wings and Columbus Clippers. It marks the second time McCready, a former little league pitcher, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

He christened the 2012 NLL Playoffs with his strike to Red Wings catcher J.R. Towles. Rochester won the East Division Semifinals 14-13 over the Philadelphia Wing the next night. After defeating the Toronto Rock in the divisional finals on May 12th, Rochester knocked off the Edmonton Rush, 9-6, to win the franchise's third NLL title on May 19th.

McCready's career has spanned 17 seasons and now includes three league titles. This season, McCready has played in all 16 games and led the team with 94 loose balls en route to his second straight team Defensive Player of the Year award. In 2011, he was honored as the NLL Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Pro.

White completed his first season with the Knighthawks after getting drafted 10th overall. As a rookie, he registered three assists and 34 loose balls in six games. The Cortland, NY, native was named one of the winners of the team's Community Service Award. White was a three-time All-American at Syracuse University. He ended his college career as Syracuse's all-time leader in ground balls (283) and was the school's career leader in points (28) and goals (18) by a defensive player.

The Knighthawks will hold a 2012 NLL Championship Parade on Tuesday, June 5th at 10:15 a.m. The procession will start at The Blue Cross Arena and end at City Hall at 10:30 a.m. on Church Street. Rochester Mayor Thomas S. Richards will then hand Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres the Key to the City. Season tickets for 2013 are currently on sale at the Knighthawks Office at 144 Exchange Blvd., Suite 102, or by calling (585) 454-HAWK (4295).
