Tucson Padres News Release

Brendan Harris was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded, providing a bizarre ending to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 8-7 win over the Tucson Padres Saturday. With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, Tommy Field whacked a line drive off the left field wall, falling a few feet shy of a game-ending home run. With Field at second after his off-the-wall double, Tim Wheeler sacrificed him to third. Padres manager Terry Kennedy decided to walk the bases loaded with one out, and Cory Burns hit Harris on the back to end the game.

Saturday's game was a back-and-forth affair that saw four different lead changes. Tucson trailed by a run in the top of the eighth when Anthony Contreras drove home Jonathan Roof to tie the game with two outs. After Brad Boxberger allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth, the Padres matched the Sky Sox again, scoring three times in the ninth to tie the game. Beamer Weems hit an RBI double and Jedd Gyorko struck an RBI single in the ninth inning rally.

Padres starting pitcher Kip Wells pitched 6.2 innings, allowing only one earned run. Wells did not factor in the decision and now has a 2.78 ERA in four starts with Tucson. Cody Decker went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for the T-Pads. Gyorko was 3-for-5 in the loss and is hitting .338 in 17 Triple-A games.
