Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes rallied from an early 4-0 deficit, taking down the Lake Elsinore Storm on Thursday night at The Epicenter, in a 7-5 victory.
Juan Rivera, on a two-game rehab assignment from the Los Angeles Dodgers, crushed a solo homer to break a 4-4 tie to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning, putting the Quakes in front for good.
Trailing 4-0 in the third, the Quakes would get to Storm starter Matt Jackson for four runs, as the first four Quakes would reach and eventually score. Alexis Aguilar opened the inning with a single, then moved to second on a walk issued to Charlie Mirabal. Scott Wingo was then hit by an 0-2 pitch, loading the bases for Joc Pederson, who responded with a two-run single to center field, putting Rancho on the board at 4-2. With runners at second and third and still no outs, Rivera and C.J. Retherford registered back-to-back RBI groundouts, tying the game at 4-4.
Rivera led off the sixth with a moon-shot to center field off Yefri Carvajal (0-1), his only hi in seven at-bats of his rehab assignment, putting Rancho in the lead at 5-4. The Quakes added an unearned run later in the inning, as Bobby Coyle reached on an error and scored on a Carvajal wild pitch, making it 6-4.
Retherford led off the eighth with a solo shot to left-center field, his fifth of the year to give the Quakes some cushion at 7-4 against Chris Franklin.
Quakes' starter JonMichael Redding (3-1) got roughed up for four early runs, but settled down to give the Quakes six good innings and earn the eventual win. Ryan Acosta came on for Redding in the seventh and struck out five of the six hitters he faced over two perfect innings.
The Storm tried to put together a ninth-inning rally against closer Eric Eadington, as Luis Domoromo and Justin Miller had consecutive hits to open the inning. With runners at first and third and no outs though, Eadington got Chris Bisson to bounce into a double-play. On the play, Domoromo scored to make it 7-5.
With two outs, Rico Noel bunted his was aboard, bringing the tying run to the plate. Everett Williams followed with a line drive to Mirabal at short though, ending the game and giving Eadington his fourth save in a Quakes' uniform.
Rancho (26-28) remains three games back of first place in the South Division, now with just 16 remaining in the first half of the regular season. Zach Lee (2-2) will rejoin the active roster on Friday, as he'll start for the Quakes. The Storm will go with Mark Pope (4-5) in the rubber game of the three-game series, with game time slated for 7:05pm.
