Lancaster JetHawks News Release

VISALIA, CA - In the JetHawks first 47 games this season, they played in one extra inning game. Over the last week they've played in four. On Thursday night they improved to 3-2 in extra inning games with a 7-6, 13-inning win over the Visalia Rawhide at Rawhide Ballpark.

Patrick Urckfitz did what JetHawks pitchers could not do three times earlier in the game. He shut down the Rawhide in the bottom of the 13th to hold the lead, finish the game and pick up his fourth save. Andrew Robinson (1-1) tossed two scoreless innings to pick up his first win.

Lancaster's newest addition, Grant Hogue, doubled to lead off the top of the 13th and after moving to third on a ground ball, scored on a Bradin Hagens (0-2) wild pitch. It was the fourth time the JetHawks had led in the game.

After being thoroughly shut down for the first five innings by Rawhide starter David Holmberg, the JetHawks rallied for three runs in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. George Springer drove in a run with a bases loaded single, Erik Castro followed with a RBI-walk and Domingo Santana hit a run scoring ground out to account for the runs.

The first five innings of the game were completed in less than an hour. Holmberg had allowed just one hit through the first five with eight strikeouts. He ended up striking out a season-high 10 batters while allowing three runs in seven innings.

David Martinez who had cruised through the first five innings as well, only allowing a Chris Owings solo home run in the first, ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. He allowed a lead off home run to Eric Groff and then hit Archie Gilbert who eventually came around to score and tie the game before Martinez was pulled in the inning.

The game remained tied until the top of the ninth when Telvin Nash, who had struck out in all three previous at-bats against Holmberg, hit his Cal League leading 14th home run of the year off closer Bo Schultz to go up 4-3.

Kirk Clark came on to try and pick up his seventh save but he gave up a lead off home run to Bobby Borchering to tie the game and send it to extras.

In the 10th, Domingo Santana drove in a run with a double and Rafael Valenzuela hit a RBI-single to put the JetHawks up two. Santana was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Valenzuela's single to end the inning.

Clark game back out for the bottom of the 10th and allowed a lead off double to Carter Bell. Groff followed with his second home run of the game to tie it at 6-6.

The official time of game was 3:47 and each side used five different pitchers.

The JetHawks (27-27) will try to sweep the Rawhide (27-27) on Friday night at Rawhide Ballpark. Bobby Doran (4-3, 3.48) will start against Andrew Chafin (3-0, 2.91). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
