
M-Brave Andrelton Simmons Promoted to Atlanta

Pearl, MS - On Thursday, Andrelton Simmons received his first Major League call up of his professional career to the Atlanta Braves. Simmons, who entered the season ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Braves Organization by Baseball America, will join the A-Braves in their next series against the Washington Nationals on June 1.
The recently named Southern League Hitter of the Week from May 21 - May 27, becomes one of the 12 players to be promoted to the Big League Club directly from AA-Mississippi. The other 11 players who have had this honor are Brian McCann, Blaine Boyer, Jorge Vasquez, Jeff Francoeur, Jay Powell, Joey Devine, Martin Prado, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Jose Ascanio, Clint Sammons, and Randall Delgado.
Simmons, who made his first Double-A start this year, has played in 43 games, batting .292 with nine doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 21 RBIs. Moreover, his career in Mississippi has flourished with many impressive outings including a season-high nine-game hit streak (.441, 15-34) from April 28 to May 8 and going 4-for-4 on May 23 against Pensacola hitting two doubles and one home run.
The next game in Mississippi begins tonight at 5:00 PM against the Montgomery Biscuits. The M-Braves will play a double header after yesterday's game was postponed due to inclement weather.
