San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio - Pitcher Jason Marquis has signed a Minor League contract with the San Diego Padres and has been assigned to San Antonio.
The Major Leaguer will join the Missions today as they begin a six-game road trip with three against the Springfield Cardinals (May 30-June 1) and three against the Arkansas Travelers (June 2-4) before returning home again on June 6.
Marquis will start tomorrow night in the second game of San Antonio's three-game set with Springfield.
The 33-year old Marquis signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Twins in the off-season but was released on May 28 after going 2-4 with an 8.47 ERA in seven starts for Minnesota.
Marquis has gone 106-102 with a 4.63 ERA and 986 strikeouts in 333 career appearances over 13 big league seasons with the Atlanta Braves (2000-03), St. Louis Cardinals (2004-06), Chicago Cubs (2007-08), Colorado Rockies (2009), Washington Nationals (2010-11), Arizona Diamondbacks (2011) and the Minnesota Twins (2012).
