Stars Squeak Out Third Straight Victory
May 24, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Huntsville Stars
After two straight wins to begin their series at Joe Davis Stadium, the Huntsville Stars beat the Birmingham Barons by a score of 4-3 on Thursday night. Huntsville got another strong start from RHP Tyler Thornburg, who improved to 6-0 on the season after giving up just two runs and six hits through 6.1 innings while striking out five. In the ninth inning, with the Stars up 4-2 and the bases loaded with two outs, RHP Jesus Sanchez threw a wild pitch that not only scored the runner on third, but got the runner initially on second thrown out at the plate to end the game. For Sanchez, the dramatic ending clinched his fourth save of the season. The two teams play the fourth game of a five-game series on Friday as the Stars will send out RHP Kyle Heckathorn (2-3, 5.32 ERA) to the mound to square off against Birmingham LHP Pedro Hernandez (5-1, 3.00 ERA).
