Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede added some scoring punch to their lineup by selecting forward Tony Calderone (Cal-der-own) with the first overall selection in the 2012 USHL Draft early Tuesday evening. Calderone was the top scorer in all of Tier I Midget Major with Victory Honda (Detroit) where he posted 65 points (38g, 27a) in just 40 games. His 38 goals also were tops amongst all Tier I players.

The Trenton, Michigan native averaged 1.63 points per-game last season and tallied five game winners while only recording 18 penalty minutes. Victory Honda finished first in the Great Lakes division last year with an impressive 29-6-5 record. They fell in the state championship game, 5-4 in overtime to Little Caesars. He posted 12 points (7g, 5a) in seven playoff games.

"Tony is a very talented player," said Stampede Director of Player Personnel Craig Sarner. "He is a natural goal scorer who finds the back of the net when given the opportunity. He is a leader and someone who we feel can come in and contribute right away."

The 6-foot, 185-pound can play wing and center and is already committed to Princeton University for the fall of 2014.

The Stampede will have the first pick of the second round coming up.
