DAYTON, OH - The Great Lakes Loons' furious ninth inning rally fell one run short Monday night in a 7-6 loss to the Dayton Dragons in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,116 at Fifth Third Field.

After the Dragons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Loons pulled to within one run three times, including in the top of the ninth, but never could take the lead.

Loons center fielder James Baldwin broke out of a 3-for-40 slump with a 5-for-5 performance.

Kurtis Muller's solo home run highlighted a three-run bottom of the first for Dayton. The Loons got to within a run in the top of the third on a two-run home run by Joe Winker, his fifth homer of the year.

The Dragons scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to extend their lead back to three. But O'Koyea Dickson hit his fourth home run of the season to pull Great Lakes to within one. Then in the seventh, Jesus Arredondo recorded a two-out triple, and scored on a single by Baldwin to again pull the Loons to within a run, 5-4.

Yimi Garcia struggled in the eighth inning for the Loons, surrendering a pair of runs.

Dayton turned the game over to Kyle McMyne, who failed to record an out. He walked Pratt Maynard and Pedro Guerrero, then surrendered singles to Arredondo and Baldwin before being removed from the game. Winker hit a ground ball to first against reliever Ryan Kemp to pull the Loons to within a run again. After a walk to Noel Cuevas, the Loons had the bases loaded and one out. But Kemp got Scott Schebler to pop up to second base and Nick Akins to ground out to first to end the game.

Arismendy Ozoria (3-1) failed to get out of the fourth inning, allowing five runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings for his first loss of the year. Dayton starter Stalin Gerson (2-3) pitched around a pair of home runs to earn the win. Kemp was credited with his second save.

The Loons (23-22) have an off-day Tuesday before beginning a seven-game homestand Wednesday with the first of three against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Game time Wednesday is 7:05pm. Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL. The first 1,000 fans will be presented with a Dino Ciccarelli Bobblehead doll, courtesy of MidMichigan Health. Lefty Jarret Martin (2-3, 3.16) is scheduled to start for the Loons against Bowling Green right-hander Jake Floethe (5-1, 3.11).

The Great Lakes Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season.
