Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

EIB OF THE TIGER: For the second time in three days, the Wilmington Blue Rocks found some walk-off magic in the ninth inning thanks to Brett Eibner's double as they took down the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (21-20) by a 2-1 mark at Frawley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

BOUNCE HOUSE: The Rocks claimed the three-game set from the Pelicans by virtue of their first rubber-game win in four tries this season.

DAYWALKERS: Sunday marks the Rocks' first day game success of the season in six sunshine-filled attempts.

CLOSE CALLS: The Blue Rocks played their league-high 19th one-run game of the season. They are 8-11 in such affairs. That means 45% of the team's games and 42% of its wins have come by a single score.

SWING & A MISS: While they did get the victory, the Blue Rocks struck out an exorbitant amount of times against Myrtle Beach starter Kyle Hendricks. The former Dartmouth Big Green star rung up 11 Blue Rocks batters. That set a season-high for individual strikeouts against the Blue Crew. The previous high was 10 and was accomplished by Kyle Winters of Potomac at Pfitzner Stadium on May 5. The Blue Rocks are scheduled to face Winters on Wednesday morning.

STRUT STUFF: The Blue Rocks got their third walk-off win of the season on Sunday afternoon, and their second in three days. Kevin David hit a two-run walk-off homer on Friday night and the Rocks first walk-off win this season came in the home opener on April 13 against the Frederick Keys.

FORE!: The four hits allowed by Blue Rocks pitching on Sunday tied a season-best for fewest knocks by an opponent. It happened a few days ago on May 17 at Lynchburg. On Sunday, starter Sugar Ray Marimon allowed one base hit while piggyback reliever Santiago Garrido yielded a trio of Pelican knocks.

BOUNCING BACK: The Blue Rocks have responded well in games after they have been blanked by their opponent. A walk-off win on Sunday was their response to being no-hit on Saturday. They are now 4-2 after being blanked.

SWEETNESS: Wilmington is still perfect in games in which Marimon gets the starting nod, as they have a 5-0 team mark. The Rocks are 6-3 in games where Marimon makes any type of appearance. The right-hander notched a career-best nine strikeouts over his six scoreless innings on Sunday. He ranks second in the Carolina League with a 2.25 ERA and .181 batting average against. His 0.83 WHIP leads the loop. He has been especially strong at Frawley Stadium. In four games (three starts) in Wilmington, Marimon is 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA and .163 batting average against.

INDIVISIBLE: With wins in four of their last five games, the Blue Rocks stand 4.5 games back of first-place Lynchburg in the Northern Division. Alongside the Rocks in a virtual tie stands tonight's foe, Potomac. This marks the penultimate series against divisional competition for the Blue Crew. Once Wednesdays' game concludes, 22 of Wilmington's 25 remaining games this half will pit it against Southern Division squads. Entering today, the North has a composite record of 74-88 (.457) while the South stands at 89-75 (.543). Three of the four teams in the North have a losing record compared to none in the South.
