THE HILLCATS: Last night, the Hillcats lost to the Winston-Salem Dash 2-1...RHP Aaron Northcraft went seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out four, but took a no-decision in the loss...The game was tied 1-1 heading into the eighth inning when the Dash scored the game-winner on a two-out bloop single to right field for LF Brady Shoemaker...The Hillcats lone run came on an RBI-single from DH Adam Milligan...The Hillcats are now 22-17 and remain in first place in the Northern Division...
VS. WINSTON-SALEM: Lynchburg makes its first trip to BB&T Ballpark this weekend...Last weekend, the Dash were in the "Hill City" for a three-game set...The 'Cats took two of three...The Dash won the first of this weekend's three-game last night, evening the season series 2-2...The 2011 season series went the way of the Dash 12-8 with the Dash winning seven of ten match-ups in Winston-Salem...
BUT WHY'S THE RUNS GONE?: The Hillcats lost 2-1 last night for the second straight game...Lynchburg has been limited to just one run five times this season, three times in the last four games, but surprisingly are 3-2 in those games with three 1-0 wins this year...Last night was just their third loss this season when limiting the opposition to four or less runs...The first time it happened was on May 3 when they lost to the Carolina Mudcats 3-0 in Lynchburg...The Hillcats are 18-3 when their opponents score four or less this year...
LOCK IT UP: The Lynchburg bullpen took the loss last night for the third straight game...It was their seventh loss overall this season...LHP Chasen Shreve suffered his second loss in three games and is now 2-2 this season...He gave up a a run in the eighth after coming into a 1-1 game...
TRAVELING SOUTH: When playing south of Lynchburg this year, the 22-17 Hillcats are just 2-6...They lost three of four in Zebulon, NC against the Mudcats, and two of three in Salem against the Red Sox...They still haven't traveled to Myrtle Beach and this is their first time in Winston-Salem...The Dash took game one of the series last night...Traveling north has been much friendlier to the 'Cats, posting a 7-2 record...
WANNA GET AWAY: SS Nick Ahmed went 2-for-4 last night and scored the Hillcats only run...The two hits doubled his total from the Hillcats seven-game homestand this past week...Ahmed played in six of the seven and went 1-for-21 (.048)...Ahmed is currently hitting .295 in 16 road starts this season a home run and 10 RBI...At home he is batting just .232 with a home run and five RBI in 21 games...Was hitting .338 through his fir 16 games this season, but over the last 22 contests, he is just 15-for-78 (.192)...His average has dipped 79 points to .259...
MILLING AROUND IN HI-A: OF Adam Milligan was reassigned to Advanced-A Lynchburg Thursday from Double-A Mississippi...The Braves' sixth round pick in 2008, now playing his fourth season of professional ball has seen Carolina League action in each of his four years...Played six games for Myrtle Beach in 2009, and spent all of 2010 (Myrtle Beach) and 2011 (Lynchburg) in the Carolina League as well, when he was healthy...The Braves' 22nd-ranked prospect hit just .176 through 30 games at Double-A to start the year...Went 1-for-5 last night with an RBI...His first RBI since May 2...Went nine games without driving in a run...
GETTIN' HIS GROOVE BACK: 2B Tommy La Stella went 1-for-3 last night...He is now on a seven-game hitting streak since snapping an 0-for-17 slide in his final at-bat last Saturday night...Went hitless in three straight games (5/8-5/11)...Prior to that, he had only three games all season in which he didn't have a hit...The seven-game streak is his season-best...He is batting .346 (9-for-26) during his streak with a home run, a double, four RBI, and four runs scored...Has not struck out in eight games...His 29.60 plate appearances per strikeout this season is far and away the best in the league, next best is 17.50, and after that no one has a ratio greater than 10.46...
ANY WAY YOU CAN: 1B Chris Garcia went 1-for-4 last night...He has now reached base safely in 18 straight games, and has a hit in 15 of those games...Hitting .411 (23-for-56) in that stretch with seven doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, and nine runs scored...Currently ranks third in batting (.349) and second in on-base percentage (.465) in the league...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Justin Collop was selected in the sixth round in 2009 by the White Sox out of the University of Toledo...Led his college team with 76 innings pitched and 63 strikeouts in his final season...The Wayne, MI native made his professional debut with Rookie-level Great Falls in 2009...Went 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 15 games, seven starts...Spent all of 2010 with Low-A Kannapolis...Went 9-12 with a 4.26 ERA...Ranked third in the 'Sally' League in innings (154.1), tied for fourth in strikeouts (130), and his 26 starts were just one behind the league-high...Started 2011 with Winston-Salem...Battled a shoulder injury that landed him on the DL twice...Went 2-3 with a 4.17 ERA in 15 appearances, six starts...Finished the season back in Kannapolis, where he made six relief appearances...Went 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA...So far this season, he is 3-0 with a 2.95 ERA in 10 games...Will make his first 2012 start tonight against the Hillcats...First appearance against Lynchburg this season...Did not pitch last weekend at City Stadium...
