Quakes Cooled off Tuesday, Play Wednesday Morning

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - JetHawks' starter David Martinez helped cool off the Quakes' offense, earning his first win of the year on Tuesday night, as Lancaster downed Rancho by a final of 7-3 at The Epicenter.

Erik Castro's two-run homer in the sixth broke a 3-3 tie and Telvin Nash had three hits and three RBIs to lead the JetHawks.

Quakes' starter Garrett Gould (0-4), searching for his first win in a Rancho uniform, came up short again on Tuesday, allowing three runs in the second and then Castro's tie-breaking two-run blast in the sixth, as Lancaster went up 5-3.

The JetHawks touched the Quakes bullpen for a pair of late runs, as Ryan Acosta gave up one in the eighth while Bret Montgomery allowed one in the ninth.

Trailing by three in the eighth, the Quakes had an opportunity to do some damage, as they chased Martinez (1-2) with two outs. With Austin Gallagher aboard at first, Patrick Urckfitz was called upon to get the final out of the inning. Chris O'Brien, who had three of Rancho's ten hits on the night, singled to keep the inning alive. Urckfitz then walked Scott Wingo, putting the tying runs aboard for Nick Akins. But the JetHawks made another change, as Kirk Clark came out of the pen to get Akins on a fly ball to right, as the Quakes left the bases loaded.

Clark worked around consecutive one-out hits in the ninth, getting Joc Pederson to line into a double-play to end the game, giving Clark his third save of the year.

Rancho scored their only three runs in the third, as Pederson, O'Brien and Wingo each knocked in a run, temporarily tying the game at 3-3.

Rancho (18-21) and Lancaster (19-20) will play the rubber match of the three-game set on Wednesday morning at 10:35am, as the Quakes celebrate Education Day at The Epicenter. Brandon Martinez (0-0) will make his first appearance at The Epicenter, while the JetHawks will go with Bobby Doran (3-2). Tickets are available by calling 909-481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
