
Miracle Hold on for Wild 12-11 Win at Dunedin

DUNEDIN, Fla. (May 10, 2012) - The Fort Myers Miracle outlasted the Dunedin Blue Jays in a 12-11 slugfest that featured 29 combined hits at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Thursday evening.
In the top half of the third inning and trailing 7-3, the Fort Myers offense erupted with seven runs in the third inning on the strength of three homeruns. Danny Ortiz led off with a single into left field and then was doubled home by Jairo Perez.
Oswaldo Arcia then followed with a two-run blast over the right field fence to cut the Blue Jays' lead down to 7-6. After Dunedin starter Asher Wojciechowski retired Dan Rohlfing, the right-hander gave up a double to Lance Ray and single to Andy Leer before exiting the game.
Michael Gonzales greeted the new Blue Jay reliever Shawn Griffith by crushing a first pitch fastball over the fence in deep right centerfield to give the Miracle a 10-7 lead. Daniel Santana would add a third homerun in the inning with a solo shot to right, his third of the season.
Fort Myers would add another pair of runs in the top of the sixth including a RBI double from Arcia. The Anaco, Venezuela native would finish the evening 4-for-5 with two doubles, a homer and four runs batted in a day after his 21st birthday.
Down 12-7, the Blue Jays rallied for four late runs in the sixth and seventh innings with RBIs from Kevin Ahrens, Jake Marisnick and Ryan Schmipf to cut the lead to one run.
Bruce Pugh entered the game in the eighth inning and pitched two scoreless to pick up his third save of the season. Pugh struck out the final two hitters, Marisnick and Schimpf, with the tying run at second base.
Before the seven run third inning, the Miracle had already lost a 3-0 lead in the first. Fort Myers handed starter Adrian Salcedo a three run advantage after Arcia and Lance Ray each tallied RBI doubles in the first inning. Ray's drive to left field drove in two and added to his team-high 24 runs batted in.
The Blue Jays took the lead 5-3 with on three hits and three walks in the first inning as Salcedo had to leave the game due to injury after just a third of an inning worked. Dunedin added another two runs to hold a 7-3 lead before the Fort Myers offense took over.
Cole Nelson (1-0) gets the win after pitching 2.2 innings in relief of Salcedo and Asher Wojciechowski (1-1) was tagged with the loss. Five Miracle hitters recorded multi-hit nights. Ray finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Perez went 2-for-5 with a double and a run driven in while Daniel Ortiz picked up his first three hit game as a member of the Miracle and also scored three.
Fort Myers (14-20) look to take the series in the finale on Friday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium against Dunedin (22-12). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Miracle fans can listen to all the action at www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Brice Zimmerman. The State Farm pregame show begins at 6:15 p.m.
