Geneva, IL - The Peoria Chiefs tied the game in the top of the ninth but lost three batters into the bottom of the ninth as the Kane County Cougars grabbed a 4-3 Friday night win. The loss drops the Chiefs to 11-17 on the season as they drop 2 out of 3 for the third straight series on this 13-game road trip that now moves on to Quad Cities for a four-game set.

The Chiefs had a great opportunity in the top of the first against Cougars starter Kellen Moen. Zeke DeVoss led off with a single to center and stole second. Taiwan Easterling singled to right with DeVoss moving to third. Easterling stole second to give the Chiefs two runners in scoring position and no outs. Ryan Cuneo hit a comeback to the mound and Kane County retired DeVoss between third and home with Easterling moving up to third and Cuneo advancing to second. Moen struck out Paul Hoilman for the second out and Taylor Davis bounced out to shortstop to end the inning scoreless.

Kyler Burke kept the Cougars off the board through four innings and the game was still scoreless into the bottom of the fifth. Orlando Calixte hit a solo home run down the left-field line for his second homer of the season to give Kane County a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning.

Moen gave way to Robinson Yambati in the seventh and the Chiefs pounced. Davis drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brad Zapenas. With two outs, Marco Hernandez lifted a flyball to center field that was lost by Lane Adams, eventually falling on the warning track for a RBI triple to tie the game. Hernandez came home moments later on a wild pitch to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead.

Kane County started the seventh with a double by Adams off Burke and a one-out single put runners on the corners. Luis Liria relieved Burke and Tim Ferguson tied the game with a squeeze bunt. Henry Moreno put the Cougars up 3-2 with a double to left before Liria escaped the inning.

In the ninth the Chiefs rallied against reliever Mike Giovenco. Paul Hoilman led off with a double to send his hit streak to 17 games. He moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 3-3. Brad Zapenas singled with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch but Giovenco got out of the inning with the game tied.

Bryce Shafer came out of the Chiefs bullpen to start the ninth and Calixte drew a leadoff walk. After a sacrifice bunt, Moreno ended the game with a single to the center field wall for a 4-3 Cougars win.

Burke threw a career-high 6 1/3 innings allowing three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out three. Liria allowed two inherited runners to score but did not allow a run of his own on three hits over 1 2/3 innings. He struck out one and walked one. Shafer (0-2) faced three batters and got one out with one run allowed on one hit and one walk.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Taiwan Easterling (RF) - Easterling went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an outfield assist at the plate. He singled and stole a base in the first, doubled in the sixth and was left at third base both times. He threw out Justin Trapp at the plate from right field in the eighth.
