Giants Brass Ready for Bantam Draft

The 2012 WHL Bantam Draft is set to take place Thursday, May 3 in Calgary, Alberta, beginning at 7:30am PDT. Players eligible for this year's draft will be 1997-born players who reside in BC through Manitoba, and from the Yukon and Northwest Territories through the southwest United States.
Much like last year, the Giants are ready for a busy start to the draft, with four picks coming in the first two rounds. The Giants will enjoy their own 1st and 2nd Round picks (15th and 37th overall), as well as two more 2nd Round picks that were acquired in two blockbuster deals over the last two seasons.
The Giants will also pick 40th overall - a pick acquired from the Moose Jaw Warriors this season in the James Henry deal. The Giants will then pick 42nd overall - a pick acquired from the Portland Winterhawks in the Craig Cunningham deal during the 2010/11 season. Both players were Giant captains at the time of their trades, and while both deals were surprising at the time, we can now gain some perspective on the impact they have on the future of this club.
Giants Executive VP and General Manager, Scott Bonner explains: "Both the Cunningham and Henry deals were extremely difficult to make. Any time you trade a captain it has a significant impact on your club, but all the picks we've acquired in return are positioning us very well for the near future. When you think about the impact all these early draft selections could make, in addition to the great young players already on our roster, it's easy to get excited about the next few seasons."

Round 1 - 15th overall Round 5 - 110th overall Round 8 - 169th overall
