Fisher Cats Pound Mets 16-3 Thursday NightApril 26, 2012 - Eastern League (EL) New Hampshire Fisher Cats
Yohan Pino (1-0) earned his first victory of the season for the Fisher Cats (8-11). New Hampshire's offense pounded out 18 hits as the Fisher Cats (8-11) earned a series win over Binghamton (10-9).
In the top of the first inning, five consecutive batters came up with hits. Ryan Goins and Mike McDade singled and Glenn homered to make it 3-0. A. J. Jimenez singled and John Tolisano followed with a single that scooted by the centerfielder to the wall, allowing both Jimenez and Tolisano to score on the error for a 5-0 lead.
Matt Den Dekker homered to lead off the bottom of the first inning for Binghamton to cut the lead to 5-1.
In the top of the second inning, Jonathan Diaz doubled for the Fisher Cats, extending his hit streak to seven games. Goins followed with a triple off the centerfield wall and a 6-1 lead.
New Hampshire scored five more times in the third, an inning which included Sobolewski's first home run and a two-RBI double by Goins (4-for-5, 3 RBI). Sobolewski also homered in the fourth inning for a 14-1 lead.
Jimenez hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the sixth and the Mets answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 15-3. Diaz picked up an RBI groundout in the top of the ninth, driving in Brian Van Kirk, who had singled.
Pino worked six innings in picking up his first win of the season. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits. Pino issued no walks and struck out eight. Aaron Loup tossed two scoreless innings for the Fisher Cats in relief with four strikeouts, and Ron Uviedo finished up with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
Greg Peavey (2-1) took the loss for Binghamton.
The Fisher Cats return home Friday night at 6:35pm to open a seven-game home stand against the Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
