Former Stampede Star Jake Hansen Signs with Columbus Blue Jackets

Sioux Falls, SD---Former Stampede star forward Jake Hansen has signed a two-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. He has been assigned to Columbus' top affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Springfield Falcons. He is expected to be in the lineup this weekend for their final games of the regular season.

He becomes the third former Stampede player to sign a professional contract in the last month. Terry Broadhurst (2007-09) signed with the Chicago Blackhawks and David Eddy (2008-09) signed with the Calgary Flames in March.

Hansen just completed his senior year at the University of Minnesota where he helped lead the Gophers to the Frozen Four for the first time since 2003. He posted a career high 38 points (16g, 22a) and in 43 games this past season with Minnesota. He finished his career with 77 points in 149 games.

Hansen played in Sioux Falls from 2006 to 2008 and was a member of the Herd's Clark Cup championship team 2006-07. He finished second on the team in scoring in 2007-08 with 58 points and led the team that season with 31 goals.

The Stampede have had 16 former players skate in the National Hockey League and currently have nearly 20 players skating in the American Hockey League on a regular basis.

The Herd close out the 2011-12 season tonight (Friday) and tomorrow night at the Sioux Falls Arena with games against Sioux City and Tri-City. Game times are 7:05 PM each night and tickets are still available.
