Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Sunday afternoon's match-up between the Lookouts and Smokies was a tale of two games. Both teams were held hitless until the bottom of the fifth, when the Lookouts ended the hit famine and began a trend of rallies. The Smokies broke out of their early-inning slump by scoring four runs in the sixth inning en route to topping the Lookouts, 7-4.

After going hitless for four innings, the Lookouts assuaged any possible fears of being no-hit rather quickly in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jake Lemmerman led off with a single and eventually made his way home on a Travis Denker RBI single; however, the Lookouts' lead would evanesce within the next half inning.

Lookouts starting pitcher Matt Magill had a superb outing, throwing five hitless innings before being replaced by reliever JonMichael Redding. The opportunistic Smokies jumped all over the newly-inserted reliever, as the Smokies scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning. RBI singles by Justin Bour and Michael Burgess book ended a two-RBI triple by Matthew Cerda to give Tennessee a 4-1 lead.

Chattanooga countered in the bottom portion of the sixth inning with three runs. J.T. Wise led off with a solo shot to account for the first run of the inning. Singles by Kyle Russell and Brian Cavazos-Galvez set-up an RBI single from Matt Wallach. Travis Denker followed a two-RBI double to put the score at 4-4.

The deadlock did not last long, as the Smokies plated three in the top of the seventh. An RBI single by Bour highlighted the pivotal rally.

Both teams failed to score for the remainder of the game, and Tennessee reliever Kevin Rhoderick pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Tennessee Smokies will wrap-up their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
