Mobile BayBears News Release
Pearl, MS, April 8 - The Mobile BayBears wasted no time putting up runs against the Mississippi Braves Sunday afternoon. With seven runs over the first two innings, the BayBears cruised to an 8-2 win over the Braves at Trustmark Park. Mobile improved to 4-0 with the win.
The BayBears posted four runs in the first, as Adam Eaton drew a walk to start the game, then advanced to second on a David Nick single to right field. Eaton then stole third base, setting up runners at first and third with nobody out. Eaton would then score when Braves third baseman Joe Leonard made an error on a ball off the bat of Matt Davidson. With runners at first and second with nobody out, Marc Krauss came through again with a rare inside-the-park home run after Braves outfielders Mycal Jones and Keenan Wiley collided in the outfield. When the inning came to a close, the BayBears had given LHP Patrick Corbin a 4-0 lead to work with.
Corbin went to work right away retiring the first three batters he faced. The BayBears added another three runs in the top of the second inning when Nick ripped an RBI double to right field, scoring Corbin and advancing Eaton to third with just one out. Davidson then drove in both Corbin and Eaton on a two-run single to left, giving the BayBears a 7-0 lead after just two innings of play.
Corbin would pitch six innings, striking out five and not allowing a single run in his first win of the season. The Braves would get on the scoreboard with two runs in the seventh, but Mobile answered back in the eighth with a Krauss RBI single to drive Eaton home and cement the final score as the BayBears went on to win 8-2.
Mobile will wrap up the five game series with Mississippi Monday night at 7 PM. The BayBears will send LHP Tyler Skaggs to the mound for the first time in 2012. The Braves will call upon LHP Chris Masters. Mobile begins their home schedule on Tuesday, April 10 at 7:05 PM against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the first ever "Bay-to-Bay" Series.
