Gwinnett Gladiators goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Year for the 2011-2012 season. Jakaitis becomes the first Gladiators goaltender in team history to win the award.

The Reebok Hockey Goaltender of the Year award is presented annually to the goaltender selected to be the best at his position as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media members.

Jakaitis earned a 17-6-2 record in 26 games this season with Gwinnett. The netminder set a new Gladiators team record for most shutouts in one season by a goaltender with five on the year. He ranked second among ECHL netminders with a 2.03 goals against average and shared first with a .930 save percentage.

The Rochester, Minnesota native was twice named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week (Dec. 12-18 & Dec. 26 - Jan. 1) and earned ECHL Goaltender of the Month honors in December. Jakaitis was also named to the All-ECHL First Team on Thursday, March 29th.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
