Ty Rattie scored three goals as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the Kelowna Rockets 6-3 in game one of the best-of seven WHL playoff series between the two teams.

Zach Franko had a goal and an assist for the Rockets who led 1-0 after the first period but surrendered the lead for good in the second period when the Winterhawks scored three times.

Cody Chikie and Colton Sissons also scored for Kelowna while Adam Brown faced 55 shots in net.

With the game tied 2-2 late in the second period, Portland went ahead for good, when defenceman Joe Morrow intercepted a clearing attempt at the Rockets blueline, skated in and scored with under two seconds to play in the second period. That made the score 3-2 and the Rockets weren't able to get on even terms with the 'Hawks through the third period.

Oliver Gabriel and Taylor Leier also scored for Portland while Mac Carruth was solid in net, facing 29 Kelowna shots.

Game two in the series goes Saturday night in Portland before the series shifts to Kelowna for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday.
