Adirondack Phantoms News Release
Defensemen Erik Gustafsson and Brandon Manning have been returned on loan to the Adirondack Phantoms according to Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. Both will be eligible to play for the Phantoms this weekend beginning with the team's Friday night game at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Both of the roster moves were made immediately prior to the Flyers' game on Tuesday night against Florida.
Gustafsson is a second-year pro out of Northern Michigan University. He has played in 27 games with the Flyers this season. He scored his first NHL goal on February 16 vs. Buffalo. Gustafsson was with the Phantoms again from February 17 through March 3 and was then recalled again by the Flyers playing in nine more NHL games in his latest NHL stint from March 4 through 18. The Kvissleby, Sweden native led the Phantoms in assists last year with 44 and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team. This year with Adirondack he has played in only 13 games due to spending most of his time with Philadelphia. He has scored one goal and 10 assists with the Phantoms in 2011-12.
Manning is in his rookie season after serving as the captain of the Chilliwack Bruins in the WHL last year. The 21-year-old made his NHL debut on March 8 against Tampa Bay and played in three games in his first ever National Hockey League call-up. He was called up again last weekend and played one more game for the Flyers, his fourth total, on March 18 against Pittsburgh. He has five goals and five assists in 34 games with the Phantoms this season. He did not begin playing until December while rehabbing an injury through the first two months of the season in October and November. The Prince George, BC native led all WHL defensemen with 21 goals last year.
Adirondack's next home games are Saturday, March 24 against Springfield on Star Wars Night followed by a Sunday, March 25 matchup with Binghamton on Dax's first birthday celebration. For tickets, call the Phantoms at (518) 480-3355.
