With spring training set to begin in a little over a month, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs manager Patrick Osborn has announced the signing of former big league pitcher Dan Reichert. Reichert, a right-hander, was a member of the original Blue Crabs squad in 2008. Travis Garcia will also re-join the Blue Crabs after spending part of the 2011 season with the club.

Reichert went 3-1 with a 3.40 ERA in six starts before becoming the first Blue Crab to ever sign a contract with a Major League organization, going to the Cleveland Indians on May 29, 2008. Reichert would finish that season in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization at Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. He was originally the seventh overall pick in the 1997 draft by the Kansas City Royals, reaching the Majors for the first time in 1999. Reichert would appear in the big leagues with Kansas City in each of the next three seasons as well, appearing in 109 total games for the Royals through 2002. In those four seasons, Reichert tallied each of his 51 career Major League starts. He also reached the Majors with Toronto in 2003.

Entering his tenth professional season, Garcia will re-join the Blue Crabs for his fifth season with the club, after appearing in 19 games to end the regular season in 2008. Garcia started off red hot in 2011, hitting nine homers in the month of May, until he was signed by the Saltillo Sarape Makers of the Mexican League to leave a dent in the Blue Crabs offense in the month of June. He would re-join the team in August, and his return was automatically felt as he hit .293 with six homers and 18 RBI. Garcia hit 18 homers last year, the most hit by anyone on the Blue Crabs roster in 2011. A Bronx native, Garcia was originally drafted by the New York Mets in 2003.
