Wild Things' Owner Named to Hall of Fame

Washington, PA - His football life was a snap. That is a good reason former Pittsburgh Steeler and current Washington Wild Things' owner, Dermontti Dawson, was selected to enter the NFL Hall of Fame in August 2012.

A second-round pick in the 1988 NFL draft, Dawson played guard alongside NFL Hall of Fame center Mike Webster before replacing him [Webster] as the team's center the following season.

Dawson, who played through 2000, was named to seven consecutive Pro Bowls from 1992 to 1998 and was a six-time Associated Press first-team All-Pro. He played in 170 consecutive games, second most in team history.

Severe hamstring injuries ended his career after the 2000 season.

Dawson is a member of the NFL's 1990s All-Decade team. He was previously a finalist for the Hall of Fame in 2008 and 2009 and is a three-time semifinalist in 2005, his first year of eligibility, 2006 and 2007.

He said that while the honor is incredible, he does not dwell on the possibilities.

"I go on every day like I have been," Dawson said. "You just live your life. If it happens, or when it happens, it happens. I really don't want to change a thing. I understand what it all means. It's my third time being a finalist. That is an honor itself. "
