Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, announce in conjunction with Western Kentucky University that Bowling Green Ballpark will serve as the host site for two collegiate baseball events this spring. The Hot Rods' downtown stadium will host the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Tournament from May 23-May 27. Before the postseason event, the ballpark will also host the WKU baseball team as they take on in-state rival Louisville on May 1.

"We have an opportunity to highlight the great qualities of our stadium and the surrounding downtown area on a national stage, as well as extend our partnership with an outstanding university and athletic program," said Hot Rods President Brad Taylor. "It's a win-win for the Hot Rods, WKU, and the South Central Kentucky community."

This will be the first time the versatile Bowling Green Ballpark will host the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which was last played in Bowling Green in 2008. Since the Hot Rods inaugural season began in April of 2009, the venue has brought more than 700,000 professional baseball fans to downtown Bowling Green. Many others have gathered at the ballpark for outdoor concerts, the annual LifeSkills Run for Autism, a 3,000-person Easter egg hunt, high school baseball games, three regular season WKU Baseball games, and more.

In those three contests, the Hilltoppers have not lost, outscoring their in-state opponents 50-21. After winning 24-8 against Kentucky in 2010 in their debut performance at Bowling Green Ballpark, WKU returned in 2011 for two games, prevailing 15-5 over Louisville and 11-8 over Kentucky.

As the host team, WKU will play in the 7:00 PM slot over the first three days of the round robin style tournament. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, May 27 at 1:00 PM. Ticket information can be found by contacting the Bowling Green Hot Rods at (270)-901-2121 or WKU Athletics at (270)-745-5222.

The Hot Rods begin their fourth season with Citizens First Opening Night on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at 6:35 PM against the South Bend Silver Hawks (Arizona Diamondbacks). Secure a free ticket to Citizens First Opening Night by purchasing a 2012 Mini-Plan, which come in 6-Game, 10-Game, and 17-Game options and offer a free hot dog at every game plus other great incentives.
