Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Scott MacDonald's scoring outburst over the weekend helped the Waterloo Black Hawks claim two important victories and earned the forward a portion of the CCM Offensive Player of the Week Award conferred by the United States Hockey League.
During Saturday's visit to Cedar Rapids, MacDonald recorded a hat trick, bringing the Hawks back from a deficit in the second period, then giving Waterloo two separate leads in the third. His first two scores were recorded while the visitors were shorthanded. MacDonald had also earlier notched an assist on a goal by linemate Aaron Pearce for four total points during the 6-5 shootout decision. Sunday afternoon, MacDonald struck again for his fourth goal of the weekend, making the score 1-1 late in the first period. Waterloo went on to top the Des Moines Buccaneers 7-3. For the week, MacDonald was +1. He shared the award with Sioux City Musketeers forward Kyle Criscuolo.
MacDonald, a Surrey, British Columbia, native, had three goals and five assists in 21 games before the weekend began. His 13 points currently tie him for tenth in team scoring.
"Scott is an experienced player. He dealt with some injuries early in the season. This weekend, he stepped up, and you saw what he was capable of," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley.
Monday's announcement by the USHL marks the third time this season that a Black Hawk has won the CCM Offensive Player of the Week title and the fourth time Waterloo has claimed a weekly award in total. Taylor Cammarata is a two-time Offensive Player of the Week, while Mitch Witek was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week in November.
After visiting the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday, the Black Hawks will host the Lincoln Stars at Young Arena Saturday. Tickets for all home games this season may be ordered online via waterlooblackhawks.com. The Black Hawks Box Office will open for phone and in-person orders Wednesday morning at 11:30AM.
