Worcester Sharks News Release

WORCESTER, MA - Rookie Harri Sateri made 25 saves for his first professional shutout and rookie Brodie Reid scored his first two professional power play goals as the Sharks broke a four game (0-3-0-1) skid in a 5-0 victory over the Portland Pirates at the DCU Center on Sunday afternoon.

John McCarthy, Mike Connolly, and James Livingston also scored for Worcester as the two teams combined for 72 penalty minutes and three fights. The shutout was the first of the season for Worcester and the second straight game the Pirates were shutout.

Despite each team playing their third game in three days, both teams came out with a good jump to their step in the opening period. Jimmy Bonneau (14th FM) and Mike Hoffman (3rd FM) fought for the third time this season with a long scrap at 1:38 to extend Worcester's fighting major streak to 21 games. Rookie Brodie Reid (6th) struck on the power play after a great entry into the Pirates zone and zipped the puck past the blocker of Justin Pogge from 45 feet at 6:49 to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The Sharks led 1-0 after 20 minutes and outshot the Pirates 10-7.

The Sharks charged out to a 3-0 lead in the second period led by John McCarthy and Brodie Reid, but first, Nathan Moon picked up his 7th fighting major of the season vs. Ethan Werek at 13:58 after a scrum in front of the Pirates net. John McCarthy (10th) scored from on top of the crease after a great feed from behind the net by Mike Connolly at 15:12 to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead. On the power play, Alex Bourret grabbed his first point a Shark, as he found Brodie Reid (7th) alone at the side of the net at 17:55. Harri Sateri had 15 saves through 40 minutes of play in net for the Sharks.

Worcester did not sit back in the third period as Mike Connolly (7th) finished off a beautiful 2-on-1 rush with Jack Combs to put Worcester ahead 4-0 at 13:54. James Livingston broke a personal 30 game goalless drought with a nice breakaway goal at 18:18 to close out the scoring for a 5-0 Sharks win. Taylor Doherty (2nd FM) scraped with Ryan Hollweg (7th FM) at 10:45 for the third and final fight of the afternoon.

Worcester's record improves to 17-11-3-4 (41pts in 35gp) and 9-7-0-1 at the DCU Center
