B-Sens Fizzle in 2011 Finale, Fall to Crunch 6-2

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators' three game win streak came to a crashing halt as they fell to the Syracuse Crunch by a score of 6-2 on New Year's Eve. The game was a rough and tumble affair in which the teams would accumulate 169 penalty minutes and five players in total were ejected from the game.
Kyle Palmieri put the Crunch on the board, scoring the only goal of the first period at 11:07 as he beat Robin Lehner five-hole. Patrick Maroon drew the lone assist on the goal.
In the second period, the Crunch outscored the B-Sens 4-1 to take an overall commanding 5-1 lead.
Peter Holland stretched the Crunch lead to two just 33 seconds into the period. Rob Klinkhammer answered for the B-Sens, scoring his ninth of the season just 28 seconds later to pull Binghamton within one goal, 2-1. Mark Bell and Palmieri added goals at 5:55 and 12:43 of the period respectively.
Tensions flared at the end of the period resulting in a brawl involving nearly every player on ice. In all 137 of the 169 penalty minutes issued in the game came at the 18:18 mark of the second. Game misconducts were issued to Mark Borowiecki, Corey Cowick, Francis Lessard and Robin Lehner. Syracuse's Matt Kennedy and Sean Zimmerman received game misconducts as well. Mike McKenna replaced Lehner in goal following his ejection.
The teams traded goals in the third period. Maroon extended the Crunch lead to 6-1 at 1:05 of the period. David Dziurzynski scored his fourth goal of the season just past the midway point of the period.
Palmieri (2+13), Maroon (1+23) and Kyle Cumiskey (0+33) each ended the night with three points for Syracuse. Defenseman Bobby Raymond earned two points (two assists) for the B-Sens in the loss.
Binghamton was 0-for-5 on the power play, while Syracuse was 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
The B-Sens travel to Glens Falls on Wednesday for the first game of 2012. Game time is 7 p.m. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens.
