Elmira Jackals News Release
After being swept by the South Carolina Stingrays in two games this past weekend, the Elmira Jackals (3-3-0-0) take to the road on Friday in Trenton against the Titans before returning home on Saturday to host the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:35 p.m.
Elmira is 2-0 this season against Trenton, sweeping the Titans on opening weekend at First Arena. The Jackals were 2-5-2-0 against the K-Wings in 2010-2011 and are 2-7-3-0 in all-time ECHL play versus Kalamazoo.
The Jackals and First Heritage Federal Credit Union will be giving away free ice scrapers to all fans in attendance on Saturday. To reserve your seats to see the Jackals battle last season's Eastern Conference champions call (607) 734-PUCK, visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND
Elmira took an ECHL season-high 74 penalty minutes in a 5-2 loss on Friday, as the Jackals were unable to overcome four South Carolina power-play goals on 14 attempts in their first home defeat of the season. Short handed by two men on Saturday due to suspensions, the Jackals fell behind early and could not answer South Carolina's three power-play strikes in a 5-3 loss.
DEMKOV TIED FOR ROOKIE LEAD
Rookie forward Artem Demkov has goals in five of six games and is tied with Bakersfield's Scott Freeman for the ECHL rookie lead with six goals. The two are tied for second in the league overall in that category.
Demkov scored in both games against the Stingrays, with both tallies coming in the third period of each contest.
The Minsk, Berlarus native is second in the league with a .429 shooting percentage, with his six goals coming on just 14 shots on net.
POWER PLAY EXPERIENCES EARLY-SEASON SUCCESS
The Jackals' power play is fourth in the ECHL at 23.3% (7/30), having scored at least one man-advantage goal in each game this season.
Pat Bingham's Bridgeport Sound Tigers were fourth in the AHL in 2010-2011 on the power play at 20.9%, registering 80 goals on 382 opportunities.
TWO-DOLLAR BEER NIGHT NEXT WEDNESDAY
The Jackals will offer $2, 12-oz. Bud Lights to all fans 21-years and older on Wednesday, Nov. 9 when they host the Gwinnett Gladiators on Willowcreek Wednesday at First Arena at 7:05 p.m.
