O'Brien Returns to Stingrays Lineup

September 16, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL) South Carolina Stingrays

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien. In keeping with club policy, details of the agreement were not disclosed.

O'Brien, 29, finished third in scoring with the Stingrays last season netting 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points in 70 games. Since joining the Stingrays as a rookie for the 2007-08 season, the Nicolet, Quebec, native recorded 167 points (46g, 121a) in 207 contests and appeared in 45 playoff games grabbing 25 points (8g, 17a). During the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs, O'Brien scored six goals and 13 assists in 23 games as the Stingrays captured their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup title.

Prior to joining the Stingrays, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound forward spent four years at Sacred Heart University, earning 158 points (67g, 91a) in 142 career collegiate games. O'Brien led the team in scoring three times and was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the most outstanding player in college hockey, during the 2006-07 season.
