Southern League Announces End of Year Awards

RAINER OF THE YEAR

MATT TOTH - JACKSON GENERALS

The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Matt Toth of the Jackson Generals has been named its 2011 Athletic Trainer of the Year, as selected by his peers and honored by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). Toth received his Bachelors of Art in Physical Education from John Carroll University (OH) in 1999 and his Masters Degree in Health and Human Performance from Oregon State University in 2001. This is Matt's sixth season as a trainer in the Mariners organization. He was the trainer for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2008 and spent 2006-2007 as trainer with High Desert. Toth worked as a trainer for the Oregon State football and baseball teams in 2004. He also worked as a trainer in the Milwaukee Brewers organization in 2002-03 and the Chicago Cubs organization in 2001.

GROUNDSKEEPER OF THE YEAR

ED ATTALLA - JACKSONVILLE SUNS

The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Ed Attalla of the Jacksonville Suns has been named its 2011 Groundskeeper of the Year, as selected by the league's field managers and umpires. The honor marks the seventh time Attalla has been named the circuit's top groundskeeper. Attalla joined the Suns in 2003 and won the award in each of his first four seasons with the club. He was also named the Double-A Field Turf Manager of the Year in 2003. Previously, he worked with the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Bowie Baysox and the Baltimore Orioles. Attalla also worked in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

BEST VISITING CLUBHOUSE ATTENDANT

DESTIN SMITH - MISSISSIPPI BRAVES

The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Destin Smith of the Mississippi Braves has been named its 2011 Visiting Clubhouse Attendant of the Year, as voted upon by the league's field managers and umpires. Smith has been with the Braves since the 2006 season and wins this award for the third year in a row. He has been a clubhouse attendant for as many years and previously, he worked as a batboy and clubhouse assistant. Smith graduated from Holmes College in 2007 with a degree in sports management.
