PORTLAND, ME - The 2nd Annual You & ME Duo Duel 10k, presented by Quirk Chevrolet and the Maine Red Claws, will be held Saturday, August 27 along Portland's waterfront. More than 300 runners are expected to participate in the unique relay road in which pairs of runners each run a 5k that begins on Commercial Street and continues along the scenic Eastern Promenade.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Mitchell Institute. Each year, the Mitchell Institute awards scholarships to one graduating senior from every public high school in Maine who will be attending a two or four year postsecondary degree program. Selection is based on academic promise, financial need and a history of community service.
Runners compete in age categories based on the combined ages of the relay pair. For example, an 18-year-old runner paired with a 38-year-old runner would be classified in the 40-59 age group. Awards will be given in single sex and co-ed categories.
Runners may register today at the Maine Running Company on Forest Avenue until 6 PM or on-site prior to the event on Saturday morning. On-site registration will begin at 6:30 AM tomorrow, and the registration fee is $22 per runner. The starting gun for the chip-timed race, which will be fired by WMTW Channel 8 morning anchor Erin Ovalle, will go off at 8 AM. An award ceremony featuring live music and free pizza for the participants provided by Portland Pie will be held immediately following the event at the staging area located near the Start/Finish line on Commercial Street near Maple Street.
