(Eastlake, OH) - Conner Powers hit two home runs and drove in five runs as the Fort Wayne Tin Caps took game one of the four game series from the Lake County Captains 9-4 on Saturday night. The Captains Ronny Rodriguez also delivered two home runs and drove in four,

The Tin Caps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Powers hit a three run home run. The Captains came right back in the bottom of the inning when Rodriguez answered with a three run homer of his own to tie the game at 3-3.

The Captains took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Rodriguez homered again, his tenth of the year. Powers answered back with a two run home run, his sixth of the year, in the top of the sixth inning and the Tin Caps led 5-4. The Caps put two more runs up on the board in the top of the seventh inning when Cory Spangenberg singled home Chris Bisson and Rico Noel scored on a wild pitch and it was 7-4. The Tin Caps added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning When Bisson walked with the bases loaded and then Rocky Gale scored on a wild pitch and it was 9-4.

Captains starter Felix Sterling got a no decision working five innings and allowing three runs on three hits, walking three and striking out four. Joey Mahalic (0-5) took the loss working two innings and allowing four runs, three earned on four hits, walking one and striking out two. Kyle Petter allowed two runs on one hit, walking three and striking out two in one inning of work. Luis Encarnacion pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Tin Caps starter Todd Privett (3-2) got the win pitching six innings allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits, walking one and striking out four.

The Captains and Tin Caps play game two of the series on Sunday with a special 7 PM game time. The Captains will have LHP J.D. Reichenbach (6-1, 3.35) on the mound to against LHP Mark Hardy (9-9, 2.92). The game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW and on the internet at captainsbaseball.com.

Sunday is an Andrews Osborne Academy Family Fun Sunday and will feature a pre-game player autograph session, concourse entertainment and activities plus the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game. Kids who run the bases after the game will receive an Andrews Osborne Academy water bottle. There is a post-game fireworks extravaganza following the game.

The Captains will host Pink in the Park on Sunday with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. There will also be a Zumba-a-thon prior to the game.
