Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - As the Dubuque Fighting Saints prepare to step back onto the Mystique Community Ice Center's ice in defense of their Clark Cup title, children in the Dubuque hockey community will have an opportunity to skate with and learn from the Saints. The team's inaugural "Play Like a Saint" youth hockey camp will run for three weeks, with sessions on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Tuesday, August 30.

The camp will provide youth hockey players the opportunity to learn from the USHL's very best. Players will be divided into two groups, with the mite and squirt levels comprising session one and pee-wee, bantam, and midget hockey players forming session two. While one level receives on-ice instruction from Fighting Saints players and coaches, the other level will learn how to prepare off the ice including specialized training instruction from Fighting Saints Strength and Conditioning Coach Jim Romagna.

The camp will emphasize skill development and teaching, with a high coach to player ratio ensuring that campers will receive ample individual coaching. In addition to the each camper's on and off-ice instruction, each attendee will receive a Dubuque Fighting Saints camp jersey, a ticket to a Dubuque Fighting Saints game, and a graduation certificate that will be presented to the player in an on-ice ceremony by Head Coach Jim Montgomery prior to the selected game.

Montgomery brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the table. Recently named the USHL General Manager of the Year, he starred at the University of Maine before moving on to a professional career that saw him spend parts of six seasons in the National Hockey League. After his playing days concluded, Montgomery was a collegiate assistant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Notre Dame before leading the Fighting Saints to a Clark Cup Championship in the franchise's first season in 2010-11. Montgomery is pleased to have the opportunity to instruct the city's future hockey stars and cultivate the hockey tradition of Dubuque.

"The Dubuque Fighting Saints are eager to aid in the development and skill of hockey players in Dubuque and our surrounding areas," he said. "Our goal is to be leaders in the community on the ice in hopes of producing more local players as talented and driven as Brooks Bertsch. Hockey is a great game that we want to help grow in Dubuque with Mystique Community Ice Center Center as our partner."

Registration for the camp costs $150 per skater. To register, parents should contact Bart Hobbs at (563) 583-6880 or bhobbs@dubuquefightingsaints.com. Limited space is available for this unique opportunity.

The Fighting Saints have had a busy summer preparing to defend their Clark Cup title. The team has named a 25 man roster in preparation for its second campaign in the Key City. The preseason will begin in September with the regular season commencing in early October.

Season tickets are on sale now - fans should call (563) 583-6880 for information.
