Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes pulled off yet another improbable win on Monday night, taking a 7-6 decision in ten innings over the Modesto Nuts at The Epicenter.
After blowing a 6-0 lead, the Quakes scored a run on a bad pickoff throw to third base, allowing Nick Buss to score the winning run, giving the Quakes a three-game sweep of the Nuts.
Tied at 6-6 in the tenth, Buss led off the frame with a ground-rule double to left field off Nuts' reliever Coty Woods (4-2). Jake Lemmerman laid down a perfect bunt, reaching first while moving Buss to third base. After an intentional walk to Angelo Songco loaded the bases, Modesto Manager Jerry Weinstein brought in Carlos Martinez as a fifth infielder. It mattered very little, as before Tony Delmonico ever saw a pitch from Woods, Woods attempted to pick off Buss from third. Woods' throw deflected off the glove of third baseman Nolan Arenado, as Buss scampered home ahead of the throw with the game-winning run.
The Quakes, who rallied from a 6-0 deficit just a night before, built their own 6-0 lead on Monday. J.T. Wise's 13th homer of the year, a two-run shot off Modesto starter Edwar Cabrera, highlighted a four-run first.
Rafael Ynoa's two-run double off Cabrera made it 6-0 in the fourth.
That looked like plenty for Quakes' starter Red Patterson, who allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings.
Leading 6-1 in the eighth, the Quakes' bullpen got knocked around a bit, as Steve Smith was charged for four runs, before Logan Bawcom induced Jared Clark into an inning-ending double-play.
Bawcom wasn't as lucky in the ninth, as Delta Cleary, Jr. walked to lead off the inning, then eventually scored on a hit by Josh Rutledge, evening the game at 6-6.
Jordan Roberts (5-4) picked up the win with a scoreless tenth for the Quakes.
Rancho (15-10, 53-42) takes Tuesday off, then returns to action on Wednesday in Visalia. Andres Santiago (6-2) will take on Diogenes Rosario (5-3) at 7:00pm in the series-opener.
The Quakes will return to The Epicenter this Saturday, facing Inland Empire in the opener of a three-game set. Saturday night will feature a post-game Fireworks Spectacular, thanks in part to KOLA 99.9 FM. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...GO Quakes!
