Canadiens Acquire Defenceman Mark Mitera from the Anaheim Ducks for Mathieu Carle

MONTREAL (July 15, 2011) - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier announced today the acquisition of defenceman Mark Mitera from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for defenceman Mathieu Carle.

Mitera, 24, played in 71 games with the Syracuse Crunch in 2010-2011, recording 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) and serving 50 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound defenceman played a total of 108 career games in the AHL. The native of Royal Oak, Michigan was drafted in the 1st round, 19th overall by Anaheim at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Carle, 23, competed in 68 games with the 'Dogs in 2010-2011 posting 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists), 44 penalty minutes and a +19 rating. In 223 career regular season games with Hamilton, the 6-foot, 206-pound defenceman earned 97 points (30 goals, 67 assists). The native of Gatineau, Quebec also suited up for three NHL games with the Canadiens in 2009-2010. Carle was drafted by Montreal in the 2nd round, 53rd overall at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
