Memphis Takes Opener, 3-1

Memphis, Tenn. - Adron Chambers and Nick Stavinoha belted home runs leading the Memphis Redbirds (42-38) to a 3-1 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (34-47) before 5,933 Thursday night at AutoZone Park.

Memphis starter Nick Additon (2-4) picked up the win, dealing five and one-thirds scoreless frames with one hit, four walks and seven strikeouts. RedHawks starter Nelson Figueroa (5-4) took the loss, giving up a two-run home run and two other hits in one and two-thirds innings. Figueroa was ejected from the game by home plate umpire Jordan Baker in the second inning, after Figueroa hit the batter following a two-run home run. Victor Marte (13) saved the game with a two-hit ninth inning.

The Redbirds opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-out rally. Bryan Anderson walked with two out and Adron Chambers belted a two-run home run to right field for a 2-0 score. Pitcher Nick Additon was next hit by a pitch, prompting the ejection of Figueroa. After a lengthy argument, RedHawks manager Tony DeFrancesco was also ejected.

RedHawks reliever Danny Meszaros dealt three and one-thirds shutout frames, before Casey Fien and Ross Wolf delivered scoreless frames to pick up the slack.

Oklahoma City got on the board in the seventh inning when Koby Clemens belted a two-out, solo home run off reliever Bryan Augenstein for a 2-1 score.

Memphis finished the scoring in the eighth inning as Nick Stavinoha hit a leadoff home run off reliever Fernando Rodriguez for a 3-1 Redbirds lead.
