Comedian Bob Marley Added to July 4th Stars & Stripes Spectacular

PORTLAND, Maine - The July 4th Portland Foundation today announced that popular Maine comedian Bob Marley, presented by Bangor Savings Bank, has been added to the lineup for the 2nd Annual Stars and Stripes Spectacular on Portland's Eastern Promenade on Monday, July 4, 2011. Marley will go on stage at 6 PM with the Portland Symphony Orchestra scheduled to begin the Patriotic Pops concert at 7:40 PM leading into the fireworks display over Casco Bay at approximately 9:20 PM.
Maine's largest annual Independence Day Celebration, the inaugural Stars and Stripes Spectacular last year drew an estimated 60,000 spectators, with tens of thousands more watching the fireworks display from the shores of nearby towns and from boats on Casco Bay. The largest annual Independence Day celebration north of Boston, the Stars and Stripes Spectacular is entirely privately funded and made possible by the generous contributions of corporate and individual donors

STARS AND STRIPES SPECTACULAR: The Stars and Stripes Spectacular was created in 2010 after the City of Portland's annual fireworks display was eliminated due to budget cuts. Founding Partners The Portland Press Herald, Wright Express, Quirk Chevrolet and the Maine Red Claws joined together to fund the fireworks and expanded the event into the Stars and Stripes Spectacular, an event that continues to grow each year. The annual event is held on the Eastern Promenade in Portland overlooking stunning Casco Bay and attracts tens of thousands of spectators from across the region.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS & INFORMATION: As details become available, the schedule of events will be posted on the July 4th Portland Foundation website, www.july4thportland.org. Individuals or businesses who wish to contribute to the event can donate online or mail a check payable to "City of Portland Fireworks" to July 4th Portland Foundation, PO Box 17831, Portland, ME 04112.
