CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, June 15, 2011) -Chivas USA today announced the upcoming launch of its "HEART Soccer Camps," a new and unique outreach initiative that will connect the game of soccer to children and youth with special needs. This weekend's event will be in collaboration with the non-profit organization World Access for the Blind and will host a group of fifty visually impaired children, youth and their families.
Certified Chivas USA coaches and specialized volunteers will lead participants in a series of fun and unique activities that will have children practicing a variety of basic soccer techniques designed to increase their self-reliance and enhance their sense of hearing and their sense of spatial awareness. Camp activities will also include a role for parents and siblings whose participation will ensure that children continue to practice and enjoy soccer in their home.
This will be the first HEART Soccer Camp in a series of five scheduled through September. Each camp will be in support of youth facing a variety of illnesses and physical challenges including children with cancer and developmental disorders. To ensure that the needs of each special needs group is met, each camp will be coordinated with different activities and with the support of specialized staff from participating non-profit groups. Camps will take place at the Home Depot Center and feature appearances by the ChivaFighter, ChivaGirls, as well as special activities and prizes for both children and families.
